Here are some Frequently Asked Questions - and their answers - regarding the new XWA Wrestling Training Centres...

When is the XWA Wrestling Training Centre open?

Sessions are weekly on Sundays from 2pm to 5pm (Morecambe). To see what we're all about, watch our video here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZkcJiS_UCE8

Where is the XWA Wrestling Training Centre?

The Morecambe centre is located at Regent Park Studios, Rear of 93 Regent Road, Morecambe, Lancs, LA3 1AF.

Who are the trainers?

Head trainer at the XWA Wrestling Training Centre in Morecambe is Dave Rayne. He will be assisted on selected Sundays by other XWA wrestlers including 'The Showstealer' Alex Shane, 'Deadly' Damon Leigh, Axl Rage and Johnny Phere. Training centre managers are Greg Lambert and Mark Kay.

From time to time, guest trainers from UK or international wrestling will hold one-off seminars at the Centres.

How do I apply to train?

You can apply to train at the XWA Wrestling Training Centres by contacting us through our website Enquiries page at http://www.xwawrestling.com/index.php?opti...1&Itemid=29

Or simply turn up at our Sunday sessions and report to training managers Greg Lambert or Mark Kay (Morecambe).

Sessions cost £7 (Morecambe).

How old do I have to be to train?

The XWA Wrestling Training Centres will accept students of age 16 and over. However, students aged between 12 and 15 may also be accepted following assessment. Written parental consent will be required for students aged under 18.

Do I need to be physically fit in order to train?

Wrestling is physically exacting and the training will reflect this. Therefore it is highly recommended and advisable that students keep themselves in the best possible physical condition. Our trainers can give advice on physical fitness and diet.

Why should I go to wrestling training?

Aside from the opportunity to become a professional wrestler, wrestling training has many other benefits. It is ideal for anyone who wants to keep fit, lose weight, get in shape and feel good about themselves. It is also great for self-discipline, developing your personality and identity, and also a fantastic way to meet new like-minded people. The XWA is famed for its professionalism and tremendous atmosphere and environment at its Live Events. We have the same ethos at the XWA Wrestling Training Centres.

What should I wear for training sessions?

Loose fitting clothing such as T-Shirt and jogging pants or tracksuit bottoms, with trainers, is recommended. After attending their first few sessions, students will also be advised to invest in some elbowpads and kneepads. The XWA Wrestling Training Centres can give advice on recommended stockists.

Are girls welcome to train at the XWA Training Centres?

Yes. We offer training for both male and female students.

This wrestling is a bit of a laugh, isn't it? I think I'll come along and lark about.

Professional wrestling is a highly skilled art form and as such, can be dangerous if not done properly. While we would like our students to have fun and enjoy their training, safety - and therefore discipline - is all important.

So our students should listen closely to the trainers and show them respect and attention at all times.

When will I be able to actually wrestle on a show in front of an audience?

We will be training students of different ages and capabilities. Some students will progress at a faster rate than others. We will therefore assess each student on his or her merits and our team of trainers and mentors will decide when students are ready to progress to XWA Student Shows or XWA Live Event level.

In order to help students realise their potential and develop as wrestlers, each student will have regular assessments with one of our trainers or mentors so they can gain feedback on their development.

We are also part of the British Wrestling Council (BWC) grading system so students can strive for personal goals and gain a sense of achievement and recognition as they develop their skills. Grading sessions will take place at the XWA Wrestling Training Centre under the supervision of external instructors/examiners including TNA star Doug Williams and former two-time British Heavyweight Champion 'The Showstealer' Alex Shane. For more details on the British Wrestling Council see the website www.britishwrestlingcouncil.org

XWA Student Shows will be wrestling shows run by our students for our students. These will allow our students to gain a taste of wrestling in front of an audience and put what they have learned into practice.

There are also behind-the-scenes or front-of-house jobs available at XWA Live Events for selected students.

In February 2010, one of our students, Gil Elkin, was awarded the first ever BWC Scarlo Scholarship having been picked out of hundreds of students across the UK as the very best in the country. This was a tremendous accolade for the XWA Wrestling Training Centre and shows that we are extremely successful in developing new wrestling talent.

I don't want to actually wrestle, but I want to get involved in the wrestling business in a non-wrestling capacity. What can you offer me?

We would advise anyone who wants to break into the professional wrestling business to attend and participate in at least one actual wrestling training session, even if initially you have no intention of pursuing the physical wrestling side long-term. This will allow us to meet you, assess your potential and your personal skills, and give you advice accordingly on how to pursue your individual goals within the wrestling business.

As mentioned earlier, there may be behind-the-scenes or front-of-house jobs available at XWA Live Events for selected students. These may include being part of our ringside security team, or part of our production team.

If demand requires, we may run one-off seminars for anyone interested in becoming a wrestling referee or manager, or for any other specific job within the wrestling business.

What will the training involve?

All sessions will begin with a warm-up and end with a warm-down. During sessions where the XWA wrestling ring will be in use, students will be expected to assist with putting up and taking down the ring. Initial sessions will focus very much on the basics. This is not a wrestling school where you will learn the Swanton Bomb in your very first week!

Are there changing room facilities at the XWA Wrestling Training Centre?

There are two small changing rooms at the Centre with wash basins and toilets. There is also water and soft drinks available at the Centre.

Will I be insured for my wrestling training?

The XWA Wrestling Training Centre is insured as a training centre for professional wrestling under the British National Martial Arts Association. Certificates are on display at the XWA Wrestling Training Centre. However, students are advised to purchase their own personal accident insurance. We can offer advice on this as there is insurance available through the British Wrestling Council.

What is the Code of Conduct?

Students should also respect each other and respect the Code of Conduct at the Regent Park Studios.

The Regent Park Studios Code of Conduct is available to view at

 http://regentparkstudios.com/joomla/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=57&Itemid=75

All students are expected to abide by the Code of Conduct. The XWA Wrestling Training Centre will abide by a 'three strikes and you're out' policy for anyone who does not adhere to the Code of Conduct. Any serious breaches of the Code will lead to permanent exclusion from the centre.

We want everyone to enjoy their training in a fun, but safe, environment. So we would appreciate all students' full co-operation with the Code.

What are the production facilities at Regent Park Studios?

On selected weeks, students will have the chance to take advantage of the film production facilities available at the XWA Wrestling Training Centre at special promo and interview seminars. Students will have the chance to cut promos, have them filmed and then watch them back to critique them themselves, then have them critiqued by a trainer or mentor. Students will also have the opportunity to learn how best to wrestle in front of the cameras.

Where can I find out more about what else is on offer at Regent Park Studios?

Regent Park Studios is a nationally acclaimed Extreme Sports Centre and film production studio. For more details on other classes and facilities offered by Regent Park Studios log on to www.regentparkstudios.com
